How wonderful it was to see Laura, Grainger, Oakley and her and Keygan's adorable puppies this weekend. They are just shy of 3 weeks old and for the most part are still eating and sleeping machines. But, during their short periods of activity their unique personalities are starting to come through. Orange is very still and quiet most of the time, that is until the food trolley (Oakley) rolls through. As soon as he gets a whiff of her he's up on his feet wagging his tail and clamoring to get to the best nipple. Blue and Waldo seem to be the most aware of people at this time. They localize and move toward a puppy call and actually look at you. Black and River are very similar in looks and personality, they are the first to initiate play with the other pups, even though play is only in short spurts at this point. Green seems very bright and he has definitely figured out the escape route. He showed this to Black today and they both escaped and found Oakley just outside the box, so they got extra helpings while the others settled into the puppy pile. It won't be long before all the pups are climbing out of the whelping box to get to Oakley or go exploring. Laura and I had a good time setting up their new play area today. It's still early, but by next week they will be much more active and adventurous and will put their expanded living quarters to good use. It is too early to be certain of their conformation, but at this point they all seem to have nice structure and are extremely healthy. We tried to get photos of them standing and sitting today; some were a little more cooperative than others, but we got some cute shots. Hopefully, Laura will post these soon. Thanks again Laura for the great time. What fun it was to hold and cuddle these sweet and beautiful puppies. Melissa
Melissa (Keygan's owner) came up for a short visit to see the pupsters, and she was kind enough to provide a guest blog for me. Other than play with puppies, we also moved them to their play area where they will be until they go to their new homes. I'll post pictures of them and their new digs later today... enjoy the blog from Melissa for now:
