Oakley is doing great - getting bigger and bigger... about three weeks until the puppies are due. Here are some pictures of her in the little bit of snow that we enjoyed in North Carolina. Notice the bulging belly... let's hope the puppies are growing big and strong in there! I will find out around March 5th how many she's carrying. Very exciting for everyone involved! Please keep her and the puppies in your thoughts.

We spent the weekend in Greenville, SC at the dog shows. It was great to see friends and thanks to Caralyn and her father for stopping by to cheer us on and say hello on Sunday. My breeders (Sawmill Swissys, where I got Grainger and Oakley) also came down from Indiana to see us and to pick up Daphne for a couple months while Oakley has her puppies.
Well, Fireside Swissys did NOT disappoint - Hobbs and River both went winners on Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, they both won majors - which finished Hobbs' AKC Championship at 14 months old! River just needs one more major to finish her Championship as well. And both are exclusively owner-handled, making it even more special. Big congratulations to Melissa Jarriel and Hobbs on their Championship! I couldn't be more proud of them if I tried. I will post pictures of their big wins when the photos come in a couple of weeks. Daphne and her awesome handlers, Shelby Roberts and Lenny Brown, won Best of Opposite Sex both Saturday and Sunday as well. Daphne is the half-sister and aunt to the first Fireside litter (Daphne is Oakley's half-sister from the same mom, and she and River and Hobbs have the same father - I know it's confusing). So, a great weekend for the Fireside gang! We came home to sleet, which turned to snow. It's almost all melted now, but it was very pretty while it lasted. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend too! Oakley is due exactly one month from today. Here's a great picture of her next to the fire (what else?) baking hopefully a bunch of healthy puppies. What a sweet girl. Is it just me - or is she just glowing (and not from the fire)?
Check out the Breedings page for information on the next Fireside Swissy litter. Oakley is the mom, and Kramer is the dad. We confirmed the pregnancy today via palpation - Dr. Joel found two puppies right away just like the first Oakley litter. So, I'm hopeful that she'll have a similar sized litter this time.
I have a very long list of potential homes, and I've received lots of referrals from a breeder friend who had a smaller litter than expected. I wish I could have a puppy for every good home, but as with the last litter, I will pick the best home for each puppy. It's hard to believe, but it is just a little over a month until the little darlings will make their debut into the world. Oakley is happy and healthy - with a BIG appetite and lots of energy as usual. I'm sure this next month will fly by as I get the house ready for Oakley and her puppies. Keep her and the puppies in your thoughts - and I'm praying for another easy whelp and a healthy Oakley and healthy puppies. More to come.... |
